VCU Health System is evolving its near-term priorities to better position the health system for the coming years.
These priorities include expanding the roles and responsibilities of our leadership team, whose unwavering commitment to patients, team members and the community will enable the health system to continue to grow and provide high-quality care in Virginia and beyond.
“It is critical that our leadership structure and resources are effectively and efficiently aligned with our strategic initiatives, especially to ensure standards of care and seamless operations across all of our inpatient organizations,” said Marlon Levy, MD, MBA, interim CEO of VCU Health System and interim senior vice president of VCU Health Sciences. “I am confident that this accomplished and talented group of senior leaders will do just that and lead VCU Health to continued success and progress into the future.”
Three VCU Health System executives assumed new roles effective Aug. 15. These executives are:
- John McCurry, MD, MHA, vice president of Health System Transformation and chief medical officer, will serve as interim president of VCU Medical Center and senior vice president of the VCU Health System. McCurry has extensive experience as a physician executive and hospital leader, and is also a practicing internal medicine specialist.
- Elias Newger, MHA, MBA, current president of VCU’s Children’s Hospital of Richmond, will retain that role and will also assume responsibility for the real estate and strategic facilities planning team. In that position, Newger will oversee all existing major construction and renovation projects, including the renovation of Main 7 Hospital and the expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as all new construction projects, including the new VCU Medical Center inpatient tower.
