
Carlos Alcaraz’s recovery from his ankle injury appears to be going well, with the two-time Grand Slam champion able to roam freely again and take on ball boy duties.
The world’s No. 2 is on a recovery trend. His Rio Open campaign lasted just two games It happened when he twisted his ankle during the second goal of his first-round match against Thiago Monteiro on Tuesday.
He continued to play after being treated by an ATP physiotherapist, but with the score at 1-1 he threw in the towel and was seen limping off the court before leaving the stadium in a golf cart.
However, Alcaraz provided a positive update after an MRI scan and said that despite suffering a Grade II ankle sprain, he was unable to attend his next two assignments, the Netflix Slam in Las Vegas and the Indian Wells Open. He made it clear that he was okay.
“After a meeting with my doctor @drlopezmartinez and my physical therapists @juanjo_moreno_m and @sergiokine, the diagnosis was a grade II lateral sprain. I sprained it so I will be out for a few days! Las Vegas and… See you in Indian Wells!” he wrote.
Alcaraz has chosen to stick with his original plan and remain in Rio de Janeiro, with Spanish newspaper Marca reporting that he will stay in the Brazilian city until March 1 before heading to the United States.
The 20-year-old returned to training on Thursday with his ankles heavily bound, but although he is still not 100%, he continues to keep busy, also working as a ball boy for his younger brother Alvaro.
Alcaraz will play in the tetrahedron as a ball boy and will face Alvaro Eo Servio Dusan Lajovic.

Alvaro, 24, has been Carlos’ hitting partner for the past few years, but with his younger brother unable to practice, the elder Alcaraz family member was on duty to train Serbian tennis player Dusan Lajovic.
Alcaraz, a two-time Grand Slam champion, will next face tennis great Rafael Nadal on March 3. He himself has a cloud of injuries. – At the Netflix Slam in Las Vegas, the match will be broadcast on the streaming giant’s platform.
He will then head to California to defend his Indian Wells Open title at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament starting March 6th, before completing the Sunshine Double with the Miami Open.
