Baptist Health opened a new central pharmacy services center in Oldham County on Wednesday, a move aimed at lowering drug prices and getting specialty medications to people who need them faster.
The $40 million facility at 1051 New Moody Lane is expected to create 200 new jobs and features a warehouse with robotic infrastructure capable of processing 14,000 prescriptions in a 10-hour shift.
The 102,000-square-foot facility will also help prepare students to earn pharmacy technician certification at the Irvine Education Center.
“We are hopeful that students pursuing a career in biomedical sciences will benefit from the opportunities this facility provides and ultimately pave the way for students interested in pharmacy to pursue futures in Oldham County schools,” said Oldham County Superintendent of Schools Jason Radford.
Amanda Shelley, the centre’s fulfilment manager, said patients would be able to save money by simplifying how they collect their prescriptions, such as receiving their medicines by post. Cancer and rheumatology patients would also be able to receive their medicines more quickly.
“In traditional community pharmacies, [there’s] “There’s a lot of human interaction with medicine, like counting pills,” Shelley said. “This takes away the human element.”
The services offered by the Central Pharmacy Service Centre are available to all patients in the state and existing prescriptions can be transferred to the centre. anytimeInterested patients should contact our call center at 502-565-0000.
