Akron Children’s Hospital Brings Early Autism Intervention to Primary Care
Akron Children’s Hospital will establish an early intervention program at its Fairlawn Clinic through a pilot program supported by philanthropic organizations.
The $100,000 grant from the Americas Endowment Foundation will allow the health system to hire a credentialed independent social worker to work in the clinic to improve assessment, diagnosis and care coordination.
Social workers work with clinic physicians to streamline the evaluation and diagnostic process, and they also work with clinical specialists to help connect families with other community resources.
The social worker is expected to handle about 900 visits per year, and the position will be retained through insurance reimbursement, according to a news release.
